Shimano Grappler BB 151 HG Left Hand

Shimano Grappler BB 151 HG (Left Hand) The Light Jigging Powerhouse

The Shimano Grappler BB 151 HG is a precision-engineered, low-profile baitcasting reel specifically designed for light saltwater jigging and deep-water freshwater applications. At Gerrys Fishing, we recommend the 151 HG for anglers who want the torque and power of a jigging reel but in a much more compact, ergonomic, and lightweight form factor.

Weighing just 185g, this reel is built using Shimanos CI4+ composite material, ensuring it remains incredibly rigid under load while being completely impervious to saltwater corrosion. The HG (High Gear) ratio ensures you can recover line quickly, which is essential when working jigs through the water column or quickly retrieving to reset a drift.

Product Details & Performance Features

• CI4+ Lightweight Body: By using Shimanos exclusive carbon fiber composite, the Grappler BB achieves a feather-light weight without the flex associated with standard plastics. This creates a perfectly balanced setup when paired with modern, ultra-slim jigging rods.

• Extended Power Handle: To compensate for its small size, the Grappler BB features a 51mm long handle (longer than standard baitcasters) and a round EVA power knob. This configuration provides the extra leverage and torque required to crank hard-fighting fish up from the depths.

• SVS Braking System: While primarily a vertical jigging reel, the inclusion of the SVS centrifugal braking system and Super Free Spool makes this reel surprisingly versatile. If you spot fish surface-feeding at a distance, you can cast your jig with confidence, knowing the braking system will prevent birds-nest overruns.

• S A-RB Bearings: These Shielded Anti-Rust Bearings are designed to survive the harshest saltwater environments. They feature shields on both sides to prevent salt and sand from entering, ensuring the reel stays smooth for seasons to come.

• Carbon Drag Washers: Despite its size, the Grappler BB delivers a smooth 5kg of drag, utilizing carbon washers that dissipate heat effectively during long runs, preventing stiction and protecting light PE braids.

Gerrys Pro Tip: The Grappler BB 151 HG is the giant killer of the light jigging world. It is the perfect partner for the Grappler BB Rod series. Because of its low profile, it fits much more comfortably in the palm of your hand than traditional round reels, significantly reducing wrist fatigue when you are speed jigging or slow-pitching all day.
