Fulling Mill McPhail Olive French Partridge

Fulling Mill McPhail Olive French Partridge Subsurface Mayfly Pattern

TheMcPhail Olive French Partridge is a highly effective subsurface Mayfly pattern, designed by renowned fly tier. Created to fish just below the surface during Mayfly hatches, this fly combines movement, silhouette and natural colour to trigger confident takes from trout.

Featuring soft partridge hackle and an olive body, this pattern provides all the key trigger points trout look for when feeding on emerging or struggling Mayflies. It excels when fished on the pull and works superbly as either a top dropper or point fly when targeting wild brown trout and rainbows.

Especially effective on Irish loughs during Mayfly season, the McPhail Olive French Partridge continues to take fish even when surface activity is sporadic or when trout are feeding just under the film.

Why It Works in Irish Waters

During Irish Mayfly hatches, trout often feed just below the surface on emerging insects rather than fully formed adults. This fly perfectly imitates that vulnerable stage, making it deadly when fished on a floating or intermediate line across loughs and reservoirs.

• Mayfly season on Irish loughs
• Wild brown trout and stocked rainbow trout
• Subsurface pulling techniques
