Okuma Custom C-7000

Okuma Custom C-7000: The Rugged Specimen All-Rounder

At Gerrys Fishing, we find the Okuma Custom C-7000 to be one of the most reliable and versatile large-format reels for the specimen angler on a budget. Whether you are targeting large Carp, ledgering for Pike, or fishing heavy river currents for Barbel, the C-7000 provides the grunt needed for big fish scenarios. Built with a corrosion-resistant graphite body and a massive 16kg Max Drag, this reel is designed to handle high-pressure situations without breaking a sweat.

A standout feature in this price bracket is the dual round metal line clips on the anodized aluminum spool. This allows for the technical precision usually reserved for match-grade reels, letting you clip up at two different distances to ensure your bait placement is pinpoint accurate every time.

Technical Specifications

The C-7000 is a high-capacity powerhouse designed for durability and strength:

Key Performance Features

• 16kg Japanese Oiled Felt Drag: This multi-disc drag system is incredibly powerful yet remarkably smooth. It provides the stopping power needed to halt a specimen fish heading for snags while maintaining the forgiveness required to prevent hook pulls.

• CFR: Cyclonic Flow Rotor: This technology creates a cyclonic airflow which significantly increases air around the rotor, with every turn of the handle. This allows the reel to dry much faster if it gets wet, minimizing corrosion and extending the life of the internals.

• Dual Metal Line Clips: Unlike standard plastic clips, these round metal clips are line-friendly and robust. They allow you to accurately manage two different feeding spots on a single spool.

• RESII: Rotor Equalizing System: The computer-balanced rotor ensures that the reel remains stable and vibration-free during high-speed retrieves or when reeling in heavy leads from distance.

• EFRII: Even Flow Line Roller: This system reduces line twist by allowing the line to roll freely over the roller without friction. This is vital when using the thicker-diameter monofilaments typically used with 7000-sized reels.

• Quick-Set Infinite Anti-Reverse: Provides a rock-solid hookset with zero back-play in the handle, ensuring you stay in direct contact with the fish from the moment you strike.

Where to Use the Okuma Custom C-7000

The C-7000 is a versatile big water tool:

• Entry-Level Big Pit Carp Fishing: With its high line capacity (325m of 0.35mm), it is perfectly suited for large gravel pits where you need the security of extra line for long-distance casting and big runs.

• Specimen Pike & Zander: The 16kg drag and smooth retrieve make it a fantastic choice for deadbaiting on large reservoirs or drains.

• Heavy River Angling: The 4.8:1 gear ratio acts as a winch, making it ideal for retrieving heavy 5oz+ leads in the powerful currents of the Trent, Severn, or Wye.

• Baiting Up (Spodding): While this is the standard version, the 7000 frame is so robust that many anglers use it as a dedicated spod or marker reel.

Gerrys Pro Tip: The Custom C-7000 comes with a graphite spare spool. We recommend loading the main aluminum spool with a 15lb or 18lb monofilament for your primary fishing and using the spare spool for a lower-diameter line (like 10lb or 12lb) for sessions where you might need a little extra casting distance.
